Definitely music and fashion. Which is not to say that I don't have my favourite 80s movies that I'll never stop loving, such as
Hellbound: Hellraiser II
(I found the R-rated widescreen DVD of HR2 just yesterday at a flea market and had to keep myself from squeeing too loudly). But I'm a music geek first and foremost, with a faible for synthesizer, post-punk and melodic new wave sounds. I've noticed that even newer bands I like often are heavily influenced by 80s underground/alternative music, if not trying to reproduce its feel and sound outright. (Long rambling paragraph on specific bands redacted.)
The other thing I miss is, you know, guys not being afraid of make-up. I'm an effeminate, shy guy; gender-bendy stuff is not only highly attractive to me personally but also something that gives me a sense of validation and belonging. 80's images of Annie Lennox, David Sylvian or Steve Strange? Beat still, my heart! - That I'm also into oldschool goth aesthetic goes hand in hand with this, to some extent. I'll take eyeliner, teased hair and winklepickers* over platform boots, piercings and fetish outfits any day. (Disclaimer: it's not fetish fashion as such that I have a beef with, merely the fact that it so often gets marketed as goth --
and so often in strictly gendered ways
-- since at least the late 90s.)
